| EPF - Karnal | FORMS AND PROCEDURES |
Constitution of India in Part IV under the Chapter, Directive Principles of
State Policy” inter-alia, enjoins upon the State to strive to promote the
welfare of the people.
Government of India has through various enactments, endeavoured to give effect
to the ideas and objectives enshrined in Constitution in the field of social
security. The Employees’ Provident Funds & Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952
was enacted with the main object of “making some provision for the future of the
industrial worker after he retires or for his dependants in case of his early
death”.
Three schemes have been framed under the Employees’ Provident Funds and
Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952, namely, the Employees’ Provident Funds
Scheme, 1952, the Employees’ Deposit Linked Insurance Scheme, 1976 and
Employees’ Pension Scheme, 1995.The Three Schemes taken together provide to the
employees an umbrella for the rainy day in the shape of old age and survivorship
benefits, a long term protection and security to the employee and after his
death to his family members, and timely advances including advances during
sickness and for the purchase/construction of a dwelling house during the period
of membership.
EPFO is the largest social security Organisation in India established in 1952 to
administer a provident fund for workers. Act applies to 177 classes of
industries, factories and the establishments with all those industries with 20
or more employees.
The three schemes framed under the Employees Provident Funds & Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952 are administered by the Central Board of Trustees, which is a tri- partite body consisting of

Central Provident Fund Commissioner is an
Ex-officio member of the Board. Hon’ble Union Labour Minister is the Chairman
and Minister of State for Labour is the Vice-Chairman of the Board. The tenure
of the Board is five years.
As a measure of decentralisation and with a view to provide service nearer to
the doorsteps of the members, Regional, Sub Regional and Sub Accounts Offices
are opened. There were 32 Regional, 75 Sub Regional
Offices.
Besides this, organisation has opened
12 Service Centres functioning in different parts of the country. It provides
education and guidance to members.
One of the Sub Regional offices has been set up at
Karnal in the state of Haryana. Brief introduction of Karnal Office is
